The Shutdown, the Reopening, and the Road to Recovery - Zoom Webinar

Description

Join John Tapogna, President and Partner of ECONorthwest, as he shares details about the impact of COVID-19, the resulting economic downturn, and what changes will we make moving forward.

The Pacific Northwest and the nation are in the deepest economic downturn since the Great Depression. Forecasters anticipate a long, uneven recovery that will begin in earnest only after the virus is eliminated. The downturn has put longstanding societal and economic inequities into high relief. Infection and death rates have been borne disproportionately by communities of color and the elderly, and stock markets are thriving despite record unemployment and accelerating business closures. The year has brought unprecedented change and so many questions. Where do we stand on the public health and economic fronts as schools prepare to reopen? How has the virus changed the way we interact and do business? And, as we recover, how will we change the ways we live, learn, and work?

John is President of ECONorthwest and oversees the firm's business strategy. Since his arrival at ECONorthwest in 1997, John has built consulting practices in education, healthcare, human service, and tax policy. The education practice is organized around the use of student-level data to evaluate programs for clients including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Lumina Foundation, Idaho’s Albertson Family Foundation, and Oregon’s Chalkboard Project. John also led the design and development of award-winning software tools in nine states that help low-income families, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans understand their eligibility for safetynet programs. Prior to joining ECONorthwest, John served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Chile and was an Analyst at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, where he estimated the cost of key congressional legislation. He holds degrees from the University of Oregon and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
